Selling your home when your family consists of pets and children is not always easy. However, there are some things you can do to help it go more smoothly and not have these beloved family members negatively affect the sale of your home.
Many homebuyers do not like when you have a pet. Animals make some people uncomfortable and nervous, so you do not want them to be present for any viewings. But even when they are out of the home, you’ll want to remove all evidence that they live there to leave a better impression with viewers. Clean up all fur by vacuuming floors and furniture and make sure there are no animal smells left behind to put people off. You might not notice the smells anymore, but they are there! Also put away any food dishes, litter boxes and toys laying around.
As for your children, first start with their safety and remove any photos of them or papers and schedules that might have their names etc. on them. Kids certainly come with a lot of mess! The best way to keep this at a minimum is to keep one area of the home designated for their toys and playing in, which can be easily tidied up at short notice. Keep only a minimal amount of their toys around during the sale of your home and pack away others out of sight. You don’t want lots of toys cluttering things up and making the home appear smaller.
Give the house a deep cleaning as pets and kids definitely know how to make a mess, like sticky fingers, scuffed walls and stained carpets. Do not let these things put off potential buyers!
